LASWEB attaches crucial importance to providing easy and effective access to justice to the weaker and disadvantaged sections of society. The mechanism of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) was devised in accordance with the provisions contained in Part III (Sections 61-85) of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act of 1996. In lok adalats, judges, lawyers and social activists get together to settle all kinds of dispute within the broad framework of this mechanism.

To mitigate common people’s harassment, inconvenience and oppression arising out of corrupt, inefficient and severely overstretched systems of judicial administration, LASWEB has held several lok adalats in the Calcutta High Court and at other places where local demands exist.
