The purpose of organizing legal aid clinics and camps is to take our services to the doorsteps of the poor and vulnerable people living in rural and distant areas of West Bengal.
Practising lawyers, psychologists and social workers are sent from Kolkata to deal with long-continuing cases furnished by people brought to such clinics through local connections of panchayats and community-based organizations with whom LASWEB maintains contacts for purposes of socio-legal networking.
Specific requirements are documented and sorted out for allotment to lawyers and psychologists in accordance with their areas of specialization. Remedial actions and follow-up measures are taken to ensure free and speedy access to justice for those who fail to make effective use of the severely overburdened state-run legal aid system. So far thirty-one pro bono legal aid clinics have been organized in several districts of West Bengal.
